Making IDs are hard!

Temperature: 84°
Humidity: 35%
Sunny

Because I was doing an educational program today, I had lunch super late. By the time I got back in the office, I had some things to get done which only left me less then an hour to write about what I saw today. I did want to mention real quick a couple of really cool things I did see.
First, I saw an awesome spider that I had never come across before. It's called, well who knows at this point? I haven't identified it yet. It had a small web strung in the leaves of a fern on the side of the trail. Funny thing was that it was upside down on the bottom of it's web (so it's belly faced me). I had to twist the whole fern over to see the markings on it clearly. Needless to say, my spider friend was very unhappy about this joyride. It was a really pretty spider. It had a shiny and smooth looking black body with a thick white stripe running vertically on it's abdomen. It's black legs were medium length and thin and fragile looking.
Second, I saw a wasp that was cool. Shiny blue black with stumpy almost rectangular wings. It had two white stripes wrapping around it's abdomen (close to it's thorax). Again, I haven't identified it yet, still working on it. Obviously shiny black things with white stripes were catching my attention today.
An animal I saw that was rather drab, but still caught my attention, was a Northern Fence Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus hyacinthinus). It ran across the trail right in front of me, almost over my foot. Talk about camouflaged! It was dark browns and blacks with fantastic light colored stripes running horizontally down it's back and tail. Seriously, I love bold patterns in nature. They never seem real to me!
That's all for now. Hopefully tomorrow will receive a full report of my lunch time walk!
