I never thought it would happen but I have managed to ID the insect I saw on May 6th. Remember?
The body look very ant-like but much larger. It had long wings. Its head, abdomen, and wings were all a shiny black but its thorax was a reddish-orange color. The most identifiable part of its body was a single long tail (think mayfly larvae).
Thanks to an amazing new insect websites that I found (the title is pictured above), I now know my mystery bug was a Braconid Wasp (Atanycolus genus). Praise the lord! I am finally figuring out how to ID things!
Another (possible) ID was a wasp I couldn't figure out from May 9th:
Shiny blue black with stumpy almost rectangular wings. It had two white stripes wrapping around it's abdomen (close to it's thorax).
I now believe it is a Mason Wasp (Manobia quadridens). The only reason I am not 100% certain is because I remembered it having two stripes on it's abdomen and all of the pictures I have seen just show one. Hmmmm, suspicious.

Do you know if the atanycolus braconid wasp stings humans?
